O MY PAPA

In Memory of Smith Alvin Dawson II

O My Papa

37 years ago, today, my father received his eternal birthday…he died tragically–too young at age 63.  His was the first funeral I attended.  I am his ‘little girl’ still.

From him, I learned to love, to forgive, to be patient, to be disciplined and strong in trials and to hold on to God for mercy.

From time to time, he visits me in wonderful dreams, not a word is spoken but his smile reassures me.  He was a true soldier and I still get strength from him now.

…until we meet again…
