Brenda Ueland 1891-1985

“Be careless, reckless!  Be a lion

Be a pirate, when you write.”

Brenda Ueland became relevant to me three years ago when I began writing – NOT a coincidence, I believe.  This is what attracted me to her:

“Why should we all use our creative power?

Because there is nothing that makes people so generous, joyful, bold and compassionate.

Because the best way to know the truth and beauty is to try to express it.

And what is the purpose of existence here and yonder but to discover truth and beauty and express it, i.e., share it with others?”

Carl Sandburg called Brenda’s classic book, “If You Want to Write” the best book ever written on how to write – I agree.

Thanks to Brenda Ueland, Scribe for Love, Truth and Peace came about; her teachings continue to inspire me.   She is worth reading about.
