ETCHED IN MEMORY

Christ Enthroned Icon

HAIBUN

This impressive Christ icon welcomes parishioners of a magnificent church nestled in the Kendall neighborhood of Miami, just a stone’s throw from where my parents lived.  Drawn to this image where I laid so many prayers at His feet each day I visited my family,  the icon came to mind as I woke up with inspiration to write a prayer.

Prayer

As if an angel’s spirit whispered

“I am ever faithful Rabboni

Wake up to taste and see my goodness

That I may show you how to walk above the broken pieces of glass on this earthly journey of yours

Each day this mystery unfolds the Kingdom of God before your eyes

Behold my Love and Protection

My Promise of Salvation is yours eternally and for everyone you know and love.”

Amen.

Dear Friends, I pray this prayer for you

HAIBUN

Cypress trees, lavender and wild flowers all sketch this unique landscape of Provence, France  – with deep family roots so close to my heart.  My cousin Any still lives there where I first saddled a horse and we enjoyed fabulous banquets on the hilltop.

FAUVISM

Still Life with Jug by Alexei von Jawlensky 1864-1941

HAIBUN

While residing in Germany, I was fortunate to visit museums that contained Expressionistic art like this still life.  Russian born Jawlensky, along with his peers Kandinsky and others, created this Fauvism style at the beginning of the 20th century.  Their radical use of uncommon colors separates them from the earlier French Impressionists.  I love these striking colors perking up ordinary life, thus impels me to write this…
