Joan of Arc  (1414 – 1431)

Quote from France’s Patron of Soldiers

“”I was in my 13th year when I heard a voice from God to help me govern my conduct.  And the first time I was very much afraid…Children say that people are hung sometimes for speaking the truth…I am not afraid…I was born to do this.”

As a young girl living in France,  I marveled at Orleans and the Rheims Cathedral  which Joan made famous as she tried to do what she thought God wanted of her.  Joan led the French army in reclaiming the crown to Charles VII against the English.  A year after that, Joan was captured, charged for heresy and burned at the stake on May 31, 1431. Young people today can look to Joan of Arc to help fight their battles.  One more thought, I’m thankful to hold in hand this beautiful medallion which my Maman fondly wore.
