“A message from a Calliope Hummingbird”
Is it a moth?
So quick and small…
Perhaps a dragonfly… or a butterfly in the distance?
What an amazing existence!
Zipping and darting through flowers
At this early hour!
What a discovery!
It’s the tiniest forest hummingbird
That I have ever observed!
The calliope hummingbird,
A true miracle of Nature!
A jewel so shiny,
Such a magnificent creature
In a body so tiny!
Named the “beautiful voiced” by the Greeks,
A wonder so sweet,
With an indomitable spirit,
Who travels thousands of miles without limits
Making him the smallest
Migratory bird and the mightiest!
I witnessed a wonder and a mystery
Of amazing achievement,
And astonishing feat
The spirit’s victory
Against all odds, knows no defeat
And can accomplish such deed…
Why then doubt humanity’s
Enormous capacity
To learn lessons from our past,
And overcome challenges,
To repair all of Nature’s…
