A father learned that his son had skipped school.  Since the boy had lied to him, the father felt compelled to punish him, instructing him to remain in the attic for 3 days, the boy shuttered in fear.  The mother felt tormented because she knew their son would be terribly afraid of the attic.  That first night no one could sleep.  Eventually the father decided to go to the attic to share with his son the sacrifice of shame, both shared meals together, and laid on the same pillow…a compassionate lesson well taught.  The father was well known minister S.D. Gordon who said,

“Prayer strikes the winning blow; service is simply picking up the pieces.”

Didn’t Jesus do the same for us?  He became the scapegoat for sin in the world.

“Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”  –Matthew 20:28

This heartfelt story encourages me to be more forgiving.
