I have not returned to Miami since my Maman died five years ago today. Seeing the ocean used to assure me that together we would be jumping on hot sand and shading under coconut trees. I caress her physical absence only because I know she now relishes her new mansion and whispers to me to hope for mine one day.
Like the Apostles who saw Jesus ascend to heaven, they knew He had taught them everything they needed to know to fulfill their mission – spreading the Good News around the world. So did my mother do the same with me. So shall I raise a glass of French Champagne to thank her for everything.
