NOVEMBER FRAGRANCE

Are you ready for November?

“In November, the smell of food is different.  It is an orange smell.  A squash and pumpkin smell.  It tastes like cinnamon and can fill up a house in the morning, can pull everyone from bed in a fog.  Food is better in November than any other time of the years.”

–Cynthia Rylant

This new month we honor the saints and those gone before us, and chrysanthemums adoring front porches.  The wind sounds eerie, so say the prophets trumpeting a shift in the universe.  We wear fluffy flannels to protect us from the chill.  Sip hot cider or Gluhwein.  Then comes Thanksgiving day where no one diets. The lakes frozen, woods are naked, the meadows are brown and very few blooms exist.  Chimney stacks bellow grey smoke up the barren trees.  Days are real short and dark, but with great expectancy for a snowy Christmas and frosty windshields.

I’m ready!  It is time to enjoy the stillness and beauty of Winter.
