ASCENDING LIFE

“Righteous Father, the world also does not know you, but I know you, and they know that you sent me.  I made known to them your name and I will make it known, that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in them.”

The Gospel of John 17:26

The Ascension of Christ is a glory manifestation of our future ascension in heaven.  It also reminds me of  the “Life Ascending” French laity movement my grandmother and mother participated in their lifetime.  It began in the 1950s as a prayerful association for the care of the elderly.  Now it has a membership of over 250,000 people representing 44 countries.

In essence, this fellowship aspires not in retirement, but in “refiring life” and reverencing the Word of God through community action. I was blessed to attend their monthly meetings when I visited my mother in Miami.  Their opening prayer acknowledges “working with God of mystery.”  Each meeting a topic was discussed, like live under the smile of God, create future moments of salvation, seek what is alive, where do you find Jesus and it’s time to get my voice back.  The roundtable discussions were lively and jovial…and why not!  The members were living a wonderful God moment and then we went out for lunch.  How I miss those occasions as I relish the thought of “living under the smile of God.  What about you?
