“The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”

–Romans 8:6

Life can be heart breaking and heart smiling, like fitting pieces to a puzzle.  We are made for more than engaging in instant gratification or foolish things– this is the world’s way.  However, living for God is the  radical way.  Like Christ, it requires being “Galilean,” which in Hebrew means being revolutionary.

So is life — heart breaking at times.  But choosing to live as in heaven as on earth is heart smiling and lessens pain, grief, regrets and fears.

I have sailed on the Sea of Galilee not knowing its radical meaning except for now it encourages me to live an even more radical way for God.  Are you a Galilean, too?

“Righteous Father, the world also does not know you, but I know you, and they know that you sent me.  I made known to them your name and I will make it known, that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in them.”

The Gospel of John 17:26

The Ascension of Christ is a glory manifestation of our future ascension in heaven.  It also reminds me of  the “Life Ascending” French laity movement my grandmother and mother participated in their lifetime.  It began in the 1950s as a prayerful association for the care of the elderly.  Now it has a membership of over 250,000 people representing 44 countries.

In essence, this fellowship aspires not in retirement, but in “refiring life” and reverencing the Word of God through community action. I was blessed to attend their monthly meetings when I visited my mother in Miami.  Their opening prayer acknowledges “working with God of mystery.”  Each meeting a topic was discussed, like live under the smile of God, create future moments of salvation, seek what is alive, where do you find Jesus and it’s time to get my voice back.  The roundtable discussions were lively and jovial…and why not!  The members were living a wonderful God moment and then we went out for lunch.  How I miss those occasions as I relish the thought of “living under the smile of God.  What about you?

“While we are often tempted to look back with regret for goals not reached, we would do better as we move into a new season.”

Second Chance

If we might have a second chance

to live the days once more,

And rectify mistakes we’ve made

to even up the score,

If we might have a second chance

to use the knowledge gained,

Perhaps we might become at last

as fine as God ordained.

But though we can’t retrace our steps

however stands the score,

Tomorrow brings another chance

for us to try once more.”

–T. J. Farr

Providentially today, this poem slipped out of the bible as I was searching for Colossians 2:13-14 and it reads:

“You were dead…but God gave you life with Christ.  He forgave all our sins.  He canceled the record of our debts, those regulations which accused us.  He did away with all that and nailed it to the cross.”

Not a chance this is a coincidence, the poem and Word of the Lord from whom we are bestowed as many chances as we need in life.  Alleluia!
