“The soul is kissed by God in its innermost regions.  It is a yearning to give one’s self to God’s Way.”  –Hildegard of Bingen

Happy first Sunday in October!

Mary at Lourdes

Today the Queenship of Mary is honored alongside her King Jesus.   In the end, she will crush the diabolical force of evil in the world (Revelation 12:1-5). This tradition is supported by the writings of Saint Ephrem (4th century) and Saint Damascene (7th century).

“My only occupation is loving.”–Elizabeth of the Trinity, French mystic writer

Mary, protector of anyone in need and danger, pray for us.

The Assumption of Mary

Today Mary, Mother of Jesus Christ, is remembered as being assumed body and soul into Heaven at age 69…a promise for all of us.

“It came to pass after that we reached the 16th of Mesore, and were gathered with the apostles at the tomb.  We saw lightnings and were afraid.  There was a sweet odour and a sound of trumpets.  The door of the tomb opened; there was a great light within.  A chariot descended in fire; Jesus was in it; he greeted us.

He called into the tomb:  “Mary, my mother, arise!”  And we saw here in the body, as if she had never died.  Jesus took her into the chariot.  The angels went before them.  A voice called, “Peace be to you, my brethren.”

–The Discourse of Theodosius

Holy Mary, thank you for bringing us closer to heaven
